Read Dr. Hargraves for the Spring Colloquy
If you're coming to our Summer Colloquy, you'll know we're hosting Christian psychotherapist Dr. Terry D. Hargrave of Fuller Seminary. Read up a bit on him in NexLearn; Questia makes his book (with Franz Pfitzer) The New Contextual Therapy available full text; there are articles by Dr. Hargraves there, and more in Wilson Select Full Text (currently available in OCLC FirstSearch). And current carroll Students can ask me about interlibrary loan (ILL). You can always visit my wiki if you need help navigating the library block in NexLearn. Hope to see you there...

Calvin Miller knows Art
You may already know from the Carroll Homepage that Calvin Miller is to be our featured speaker at the Spring Colloquy next month; you might even know the Colloquy topic will be "Christianity and Literature."
- Does "Art" sound like an awfully broad topic to you? Go wide with Oxford Reference, or go deep by exploring the Cambridge Literary Histories in NexLearn's Cambridge Histories Online (CHO).
- But what will the author of of a host of writings (like Spirit, Word and Story) say on this topic? Perhaps you can get a inkling reading some of his book reviews full text in OCLC FirstSearch via NexLearn; search for "Miller, Calvin" as a author, and read his take on Buechner's Son of Laughter, Hughes' Satan's Whispers, and Bailey and Blevin's Dramatic Monologues; Or consider his own exposition of "Genesis 1:26" from the journal Review and Expositor. Also, see what other reviewers and writers have to say about works by Dr. Miller.
- Or branch out into the world of Interlibrary Loan by contacting me...

Michael Lindsay articles for next week's Winter Colloquy
You've seen some of these if you've been dilligent checking OCLC FirstSearch in NexLearn, but these links come to us courtesy of DBU's own Doctoral Research Librarian, Dr. John Jaeger. Have a look at these entries by and about our featured speaker:

Sidelight on Bhctilibrary Wiki
This wiki is a sandbox-worthy version of how to search our NexLearn resources, and to (I hope) disambiguate our bibliographic instruction. Go there to learn how to search OCLC FirstSearch, Seminary Library, Questia, Oxford Reference Online, Grove Music Online, our '07 list of Online Resources; plus directives back to BHCTILibrary "Proper" and BHCTILibraryToo, as well as this page. Once the kinks are all worked out, some version of it will be added to NexLearn, but feel free to visit and edit meanwhile...

3.5K combined
The 3,500 reviewed mark was reached today in the combined BHCTILibrary collections; 2.5K remains in "Proper," and there are now 1.K in "Too." As previously noted, the "reviews"consist primarilly of OCLC data and LCCN placements; but the latter is important to SACS, and when coordinated with labeling (our existing 16 BHCTI subject areas and 4 subject "clusters," which all extant entries already enjoy- the LC class is being added to the labels as each are found), I think it gives a good indication why entries fit their subjects- that they are relevant for us. The bulk of "Too" items are in the Worship and Church Music Areas of Concentration, and will grow to a similar number of Missions entries moving forward.

Church Music plays out
Still a bit under 4K, but all my initially identifed Google Books for Church Music area of concentration (cluster WM) have been added to BHCTILibraryToo as of today. Stay tuned for my next target!

50 more at Too
Moving forward on the originally found 10K Googlebooks, under area of concentration Church Music (Carroll abbreviation WMCMU) in BHCTILibraryToo. Watch this space as we fill it in...

Number crunching
94% of the combined libraries Googlebooks holdings fit in the SACS area of "Humanities and General Works" (2,821 books of 3K), with the next closest area, "Social Sciences" taking up a mere 142 items (4%, and these mostly classified as Church History). I can start adding new titles to the Church Music area of concentration in BHCTIToo on Monday. Nice to be able to move forward (as opposed to just catching up) again...

2.5K combined
Progress spead up over the weekend; only 500 or so to be complete with OCLC data in BHCTILibrary proper....

1.5K combined reviews
The next mark of 1,000 "reviewed" in BHCTILibrary proper was reached today; when added to the 500 in BHCTILibraryToo, that reachs the 1.5K mark in the combined collections. As previously noted, the "reviews"consist primarilly of OCLC data and LCCN placements; but the latter is important to SACS, and when coordinated with labeling (our existing 16 BHCTI subject areas and 4 subject "clusters," which all extant entries already enjoy- the LC class is being added to the labels as each are found), I think it gives a good indication why entries fit their subjects- that they are relevant for us. I can't promise I'll keep on the retroactive reviewing of the 2.5K in BHCTILibrary proper without adding more Church Music entries to the 500 in BHCTILibraryToo; but I might. As you may remember, "proper" is now stuffed full; once "too" is filled, I'll be placing another Google Library until all previously located (and subsequently identified) finds are accessable....

1.1K reviews combined
Just realized I'd crossed the 600 "reviewed" mark in BHCTILibrary proper; when added to the 500 in BHCTILibraryToo, that reachs the 1K mark in the combined collections. Admittedly, the "reviews"consist primarilly of OCLC data and LCCN placements; but the latter is more vital to SACS, and when coordinated with labeling (our existing 16 BHCTI subject "clusters," which all extant entries already enjoy- the LC class is being added to the labels as each are found), I think it gives a good indication why entries fit their clusters- that they are relevant for us. Back in the saddle
Have been roping a few LCCNs and OCLC numbers at BHCTILibrary proper following a long spell of SACS documentation revision. More tomorrow!

BHCTILibraryToo at 50
50 Googlebooks from our original list (last Summer's) Worship (Cluster WMWOR) are added to the first "Annex" at BHCTILibraryToo so far. Moving a bit more slowly in order to obtain more complete records for SACS (especially the addition of LCCNs); there'll be less backtracking in this collection than at BHCTILibrary proper.

A bit more
Still working on adding LCCNs to the 2.5K in BHCTILibrary, in prep for SACS reporting

Increments
Google tecs recommend no more than 2K in a library, but I'm experiencing 2.5 as the firm ceiling; will begin to populate a "new" library next week. There are some options to federate searching between free websites, so we needn't worry about interoperability even if the projected 20K are spread over 10 libraries...
Meanwhile, have added OCLC#, LCSHs, and LCCNs to the most recent 50 of the BHCTILibrary entries- will keep building on these for SACS....

A way forward
Nothing new from Google techs yet, but some judicious excisions and extractions confirm for my purpose the 2.5K ceiling of my Google Books BHCTILibrary account. The next 2.5K (to a total of 5K) will be placed in an "Annex" generously provided by Mrs. Day. More on that tomorrow- I am meanwhile hunting more OCLC# and LCCNs for the first 2.5K.

Temporarily arrested development
Glad I've been checking my ceiling- nothing I've tried adding today in excess of 2.5K into BHCTILibrary has taken. No documentation found that says this is a ceiling- but I've emailed the Google Book techies to see what's up. Several getarounds are possible, if needed.
Meantime, I'm gilding my lillies by finding OCLC #s, LCSHs, and LCCNs for found items (and when available, HathiTrust links) and squirreling them away in my "Review" section. Only the LCCNs are being turned into Tags; SACS will want to know what size the collection is, and percentages of the total being applicable to BHCTI by LCCN.
